CFP Board Awards $40,000 in Grant Funding to Hope Care & Counseling

[San Clemente, CA] – July 30, 2007 – Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc. (CFP Board) has made a grant award of  $40,000 to Hope Pastoral Care & Counseling (HPCC) of San Clemente, CA.  With the grant award, HPCC will create personal financial workshops for, and provide over 100 free financial plans to Marine families stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Specifically, the grant will free up staff from Hope to create a three-hour workshop that can be re-used at military bases around the country.  The workshop will be initially offered 4-6 times in the vicinity of Camp Pendleton. Additionally, all service people who complete the class will be offered a free financial planning session by local Certified Financial Planner’s who have volunteered their time.

“CFP Board believes this project will reach individuals who may not otherwise have access to financial planning assistance,” said Tim Stifel, CFP Board’s Manager of External Relations.  “We expect that Hope Pastoral Care & Counseling’s project will not only help individuals in the immediate community, but also become a model to help others across the country reach similar communities.”

Through CFP Board’s Financial Planning Grants program, which was introduced in 2006, CFP Board has awarded grants totaling $1,331,630 to 28 projects across the U.S.  The grant awards further CFP Board’s mission to help Americans benefit from competent and ethical financial planning by giving financial support to projects that provide under-served populations with financial planning services and information.

Hope Pastoral Care & Counseling is based in San Clemente and seeks to meet the counseling and care needs of local individuals with limited resources.  This project will be headed by Hope’s Chief Financial Officer, Ken Clark, who is himself a Certified Financial Planner.

Hope Pastoral would love to hear from other organizations, professionals, and individuals who would be interested in partnering to help serve armed forces families on this project.  Inquiries can be directed to Ken Clark using the contact info below.
